ARRIVAL TO TESANJ - TESANJ OLD TOWN

      

Tesanj Municipality is located in the northern part of Bosnia and Heryegovina in Zenica-Doboj Canton of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and borders with the municipalities Teslic, Doboj, Usora and Maglaj. On the teritory of 163 km2 lives about 46,000 inhabitants which amounts to 283 inhabitants per km2. This means that Tesanj Municipalitz is in the top densely populated municipalities in the Federation.

In the letter of the Pope Pius II, Tesanj was for very first time mentioned in 1461. During the period of thirteen years (1463-1476) Tesanj was the center of the temporary Bosnian Kingdom.

The old town of Tesanj is one of the most important and spatially one the largest fortresses in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It covers the area of 6,296 sqaure meters. The exact period of its construction is unknown. Because of its importance often are carried out reconstructions and protections of its towers, the casamates. gates. entrance. tunnels and other parts. During the Ottoman Empire the fortress had garrison of army at all time. This architectural monument is of crucial importance to Tesanj, as well as to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is under the State's protection.

THE EMIN BEY HOUSE

 

It is the oldest and the most beautiful building of domestic architecture heritage of Tesanj. It is assumed that it was built before 1860. Dimensions of the house are 13.40 x 11.46 meters. In 2005, Emin Bey House was declared as a a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. "Konak" is the turkish word and means a residential house, although in some cases it can be used in the context of residential buildings of High State Officials.

MAGLAJ OLD TOWN

 

It is the oldest and the most beautiful building of domestic architecture heritage of TesÌŒanj, which was declared a national monument in 2005. The city of Maglaj is adorned with the structures such as a city fortress, Kurshumly Mosque and Uzeir-bay house.

    Tesanj Castle is beautifull. On the top you can sit, watch the view and picnic. Once you are done with castle, make sure to enjoy coffee or a drink in one of many bars and restaurants located nearby. You will definitely enjoy the experience.
